The original song ‘Jana Gana Mana’ is written in Bengali, but in a Sanskriti dialect known as Sadhu Bhasha. The words are primarily noun but can be used as verbs alternatively. The words again are common in most of the Indian languages and are accepted as such. They remain unchanged in most of them but the pronunciation varies according to the predominant accent of the region.
The poem originally was written (in Bengali) in 1911 with five verses, only the first verse is the national anthem. This was first used as a national anthem by the Indian State from 1943-1945. It was officially adopted as India’s national anthem two days before the republic was declared in 1950.

India National Anthem Lyrics
अधिनायक जय हे
भारत भाग्य विधाता
पंजाब सिन्ध गुजरात
मराठा द्राविड़ उत्कल बंग
विन्ध्य हिमाचल यमुना
तव शुभ नामे जागे
तव शुभ आशिष मांगे
गाहे तव जयगाथा
जनगणमंगलदायक जय हे
जय हे, जय हे, जय हे
जय जय जय जय हे
India National Anthem (English Translation)
Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
Dispenser of India’s destiny.
The name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravid and Orissa and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
Mingles in the music of the Yamuna and Ganga
And is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.
They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise.
The salvation of all people is in thy hand,
Thou dispenser of India’s destiny.
Victory, victory, victory to thee.
